Dedicated to the Lake County, Indiana elite who lost their lives, and to their families.

A short history of this Vietnam Memorial takes one back to one grief-stricken family’s attempt to honor their son and others like him.  David Michael Baum was one of 255 young men from Lake County, Indiana and one of the more than 58,000 from across the nation who gave their lives for their country while serving with the armed forces in Vietnam.  Distraught over the treatment afforded most of the returning Vietnam Veterans, the Baum’s decided to donate toward the creation of a Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Lake County.  A memorial fund was established, and through community support and donations, the site has evolved into one of the most respectful and beautiful memorials to those who America forgot.  And with this Vietnam Memorial, those who gave of their all will be remembered for all time.

Calumet Park is honored to have played even a small role in the placement of this memorial.  The time and money spent to ensure that the individual serviceman is represented by this Vietnam Cross is a small price to pay to help the people of Lake County, and all visitors to this Vietnam Memorial , know for all time that Calumet Park respects and honors all men and women who have ever donned the uniform of this great nation.  And to them and their families, we offer a sincere thank you.
