Butterfly release at Calumet Park Cemetery a huge success…

003 012On Saturday, July 27th, a live butterfly release was held at Calumet Park Cemetery in Merrillville, Indiana.  This was the 5th annual event and it gets bigger each year.  Last year 200 butterflies were requested and this year the final count was 315.  The attendees were treated to some beautiful live music after an opening welcome from Paul Vogel.   Daniel Moran sang “The Dance” from Garth Brooks, Kelly Voliva sang a beautiful rendition of Faith Hill’s “There You’ll Be”.  John Ochoa reminded us all of who really has the power when he sang “Precious Lord Take My Hand”.  This was followed by Rob Vogel reading the Legend of the Butterflies.  As the families in attendance gathered around the butterfly garden, Kelly sang “Butterfly Fly Away” by Miley Cyrus as the butterflies were released.  As people milled around the butterfly garden watching the butterflies being freed back to nature, John sang a powerful version of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow”.

What you always wanted to know about cremation but were afraid to ask…

Wilbert_Cremation_Memorial_Service

Many people believe that cremation is simple, direct, easier and cheaper than having a traditional visitation with a viewing followed by a burial at a cemetery.  That is all true, and it is all false as there are money-related costs and emotional costs layered into every death, and only you, the survivor will know if cremation was the right decision for the final disposition of your loved one.  Sadly, especially in this day of instant information on the internet, many discover that they have trouble finding any sort

Remembering the reason for Memorial Weekend…

Dead men and women who wore a military uniform for the protection of all of our rights as a free people…that’s what the weekend is all about!  Not hot dogs, or parades or sales at the mall.  We honor those who fought and died for this great country – period!  And, we do it collectively as a nation on this one day of honor – Memorial Day.

When a mother or father is handed a flag at a funeral, some of the pain is masked by a sense of pride that a son or daughter gave his or her all for his or her country.  The solemn process of guns going off in salute, the folding of the flag, a single trumpet masks the heart-wrenching reality of another life taken way too soon.  When the sun slowly drops over the horizon and the sky turns to black, every survivor knows all too well how life will go on all around them but life for them
