Calumet Park Cemetery in Merrillville, Indiana has put together a benefits program for veterans that is unlike anything in the country. Sacrifices were made by our men and women in uniform, and Calumet Park has decided to show our appreciation in a very tangible way.
All honorably discharged veterans will receive a grave in our veteran’s section as seen in the photos above (or a credit in the amount of $900 to put
toward a grave in any other section within our cemetery), compliments of the Board of Directors of Calumet Park.
Veterans will have their government veteran marker installed free of charge, including the granite base. Normally, the charge for installation and base is $625 and $480 for a total of $1105 savings. Huge discounts are provided for vaults, opening and closings and funeral services too as part of this program.
The only requirement is the provision of a veteran’s honorable discharge papers such as a DD214. Call now while the program is available as the program may be discontinued at any time. Since the inception of this program in March of 2010, over 100 families have taken advantage of the generous benefit package provided by Calumet Park.
No price increases were made to non-vet families to finance this program. The owners of Calumet Park wanted to do more than just pay lip service to veterans at a great sacrifice in income to the cemetery. All veteran benefits apply whether for pre-need or after a death at the time of need. No funding was requested or accepted from any public or private groups, including the government.
The bottom line is this, if it were not for the brave men and women in our armed forces, and their families, we would not be a nation that is free to conduct any kind of business. We, as a nation, owe a great deal to past and present men and women in uniforms, and this program is a way to honor their sacrifices.
